SITE VISIT #01 (ON 09/14)

SITE VISIT LOG #01 :

Two days ago (9/14/2021), I went to see Flushing Creek. This visit however wasn't as successful as I had intended but I was still able to document the surrounding area despite not having been able to be at my intended exact location.

One of the areas I was able to visit was the recently constructed Skyview Promenade behind Skyview Center which I think did give me an ample sense/ experience of the site in Flushing Creek since this promenade does run along the Flushing Creek as well.

* UNLESS STATED, NORTH IS UP FOR EVERY SCREENSHOT OF A MAP. *

The following images are what I saw as I walked the path of the promenade:

As I entered the Promenade there was nothing grand or exciting about it; before getting there, there was no signs up ahead directing me to any promenade; very bland and honestly feels very hidden from the public

-

The following four images document the ground of the promenade; the walking path was composed of concrete pavings arranged in a herringbone pattern ; dead grass ; thriving vegetation in some areas and sprinkled vegetation in other areas ; some designated areas where there were piles of rocks ; few benches spread out here and there

-

This area definitely can get extremely noisy ; airplanes taking off every few minutes ; cars passing / occasional traffic ; train noise ( 7 train) ;  construction noise ; truck noise from SkyView Center's loading dock

-

Ending of Promenade ; upsetting to be brief. The entrance is the exit, meaning you have to go back to get out. There is absolutely nothing at the end, what I would assume to be the exit gate is actually boarded up and behind that is unfinished construction ?

-

Other findings / observation ; dirty GREEN muckyy (gross) water ; dead fish corpses and some schools of small fishes but really hard to capture them through a picture ; lots of garbage

Successful promenade? Not by a long shot.

My next stop was supposed to be the site right beside Flushing Creek but after putting the directions into Maps on my iPhone I was led straight into Flushing Meadows Corona Park to another area where the water from Flushing Creek seeps into Meadow Lake. HOWEVER before arriving to the area I was being directed to from my iPhone, I did end up capturing images of the actual site I had intended to visit. (Kind of had a feeling that was the sight but I let the directions on my phone fool me :( tragic.)

Images of actual site:

All these images were taken at an upper level behind a fence. Looks like a construction dump site ? dumping site for tires apparently too...

Below are some notes I took while observing the SkyView Promenade:
